The Quick Review – who want a hurry up and tell me yes or no:

…Same trope as the first 3, captive and “slowly” fall in love. And this is not a spoiler since the back of the book ruins it, She can’t die! Wow, this is constantly repeated throughout the WHOLE DANG BOOK. As a way of saying yes of course the main character is perfect for Death, because of this reason. To be honest, it seems like the only reason the couple even works is for this fact, and that is a really depressing factor of this story. Not to forget super Emo Death. I mean I can relate I wouldn’t particularly want to go up there and take everyone’s souls at once, for no other reason then it is my mission.

The Long Review – For people who like to have a lot of information and some spoilers.

Sure the idea that you can’t die is pretty thrilling. Of course the idea of trying over and over again to kill Death so he doesn’t kill the rest of the world. That all seems like a wonderful thing to do, a sense of duty if you will BUT it is not enough to bind two “people” together….

Death – Can’t die, must kill it is my duty.
Lazarus – Can’t die, must kill it is my duty.
OH wow, we are fated to be! Yes, love me!

Nope, not enough. And the main character, if you are going to try and stop the unkillable, WORK on your skills, find a better strategy, improve your weapons. Also stop lying to yourself, you wanna bone him, stop faking that you don’t for the good of humanity. This book is very skim-able, to be honest I was super excited that his brothers were going to reappear. Still like Pestilence (Victor), and War seemed like he turned into a big cuddle of a father, and Famine still a sassy butthole. But their appearances were too short.

Another thing, Ben, Ben, Benly, Ben…..no. It fell flat. I’m an orphan and I found a baby that was alone just like me, oh wow! It must be just like me, since everyone else around him died. BUT he wasn’t like her but there was no explanation (from Death who was just at that city and killed everyone) of how he was “missed” and was able to live. Just was told, yeah he isn’t like you, but you love him after the months you took care of him while running away. I can understand loving a kid and wanting to protect them, but even from the get go, she could have figured out a different city to drop him off and then flee to get Death away from the kid in hope that Ben would be okay, not take the kid with you.

SERIES OVERALL

–Spice – yes there is some, and the buildup to the spice isn’t the greatest, the spice scenes are alright, this series is a good beginner to spice series.

–Same plot over the course of 4 books but with different sort of tropes/twists, but the books all meshed together and it started to get difficult to remember which book you were reading because they might not have read the same but they all felt the same.

–I did enjoy this series, but I wanted much more. Flesh out the characters better. More LORE!

(side note – – I hate being harsh on books that I enjoy and that many others do enjoy. But from all the hype and reviews I suppose I was swept away with much to high of expectations. I suspect that I will have better thoughts on this once I re-read it again in the far future– i do have a 1000 books to review before then —and have much kinder things to say. I shall re-update this then maybe. But I can not give out a dishonest review just to quell the fear to make sure negativity doesn’t come out in full force if I ever write my own)

Now on to the Questions!

  1. ..Seriously? Couldn’t have been a TEEEEENNNNYYY bit more creative then naming the main character Lazarus……..
  2. No new name Deathy-Poo?
  3. Seriously they became human but still had all the glow markings, and NO ONE figured out they were the horsemen from their damn names and wanted to come and get revenge?
  4. All living together once Death appeared? I would have loved to have had a different point of view moment of them preparing to face their brother and what their wives and children thought of it, and the maturity of their relationships. Yes there could have been even sexy time during then too. Showing their passion for one another is still strong, and their decision to save humanity was a good one.
